Minister of Education visits GvP School

On June 1rst, 2022 the minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dennis Wiersma, visited the Gwendoline van Putten School. The school’s directorate (principal Rosalie Edelstein and incoming principal Fleur Lagcher) welcomed the minister and his delegation from the ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW). Together with students Cherise Woodley (A4), Saudia Gibbs (2A) and Jeremy Viscaino (1M) they discussed the GvP’s recent successes and current ambitions, but also the challenges the school is still facing. The minister asked the students about their needs, ideas and concerns for the school and their education.

Subsequently, the minister toured the school. The 3 students took the minister to several classes, to meet with the teachers and the students. According to the minister, he received great questions and comments from the students and the GvP team. The working visit gave him a good insight in the education situation of Statia, and specifically the GvP school’s and students’ ambitions and needs.
