Follow-Up on Staff Meeting and Ongoing Initiatives to Strengthen Our Professional Culture

St. Eustatius, June 8, 2025

Dear GvP School colleagues,

We would like to thank you for your participation in the staff meeting held on May 28, 2025. The purpose of this meeting was to engage in an open and constructive dialogue about the improvement efforts currently underway, and to work together on strengthening the professional and safe quality culture within our school.

During our discussion, we explored how we can make meaningful progress in addressing areas of concern—ensuring that we not only meet the school’s priorities for improving the quality of education as outlined by the Inspectorate of Education but also safeguard the professional well-being and working conditions of every member of staff.

Staff Social Safety
A key topic in the May 28th meeting was the draft Staff Social Safety Policy document. We would like to reiterate that all feedback shared during the meeting, and any feedback still to come, will inform the final version of this policy. We continue to welcome input from you, directly, through the Participation Council, via All for 1 Union, or by contacting the Confidential Advisor. Your voice is important in shaping a workplace where all staff feel safe, heard, and respected.

Confidential Advisor
On June 4th, 2025, we hosted an informative session to introduce the Confidential Advisor. This was an opportunity to learn about the Advisor’s role and how she can provide dedicated support to staff members who experience unwanted behavior or face issues related to professional integrity.

It is unfortunate that not all staff attended this session. We understand that relationships and trust within our organization have come under strain in recent months. We want to be clear: we are aware of this reality, and we are committed to addressing it. However, improving our working environment is a shared responsibility. That includes the Board, management, teaching and support staff, and each and every one of you.

We can only move forward if everyone participates actively and constructively. That means showing up for sessions that are designed to support you, and engaging in the efforts to rebuild trust, improve communication, and find common ground. Your involvement matters. Future attendance at such mandatory meetings is expected. Non-participation without a valid reason will not be accepted going forward.

Rights, Responsibilities, and Clarity on Collective Actions
We want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the right of union members to participate in collective actions. However, please be informed that, based upon laws and regulations applicable in the Caribbean Netherlands, participation in any collective action or strike, whether lawful or not, results in a loss of salary for the time not worked. If such action is organized by a union, the union may compensate its members from a strike fund, if applicable.

Engaging in unlawful collective action or strike may result in disciplinary consequences and may carry liability for any resulting damage or costs. It is important that all staff are fully informed of these consequences.

Looking Ahead
GvP School remains committed to constructive dialogue, collaboration, and building a working culture that is professional, safe, and respectful. Your input is essential, and we genuinely look forward to your continued involvement as we work on shaping the future of our school together.

Let us move forward with mutual respect, responsibility, and a shared commitment to creating a positive environment for all.

For transparency, we are sharing portions of our correspondence with All for 1 Union along with this letter.

With appreciation,

Fleur Lagcher
Director GvP School
