GvP School Kicks Off Prep-Week 2025–2026 with Strong Start and Clear Vision

Oranjestad, St. Eustatius — August 11, 2025 — The Gwendoline van Putten (GvP) School successfully launched the first day of its annual Preparation Week, marking the start of the 2025–2026 academic year with renewed focus, unity, and a commitment to the youth of St. Eustatius.

The session was officially opened by the new President of the School Board, Ms. Candidia Woodley, who warmly welcomed all staff members back after the summer break. She expressed hope that the vacation had been restful and rejuvenating, setting the tone for a productive year ahead.

Ms. Woodley reiterated the Board’s unwavering support for Principal Fleur Lagcher and her management team, affirming their leadership in the day-to-day operations of the school.

During her address, Ms. Woodley highlighted key points for the upcoming school year:

  • Board Restructuring: The Foundation is transitioning from a one-tier to a two-tier governance structure. She also emphasized that these adjustments in the Board’s structure will not affect the school’s operational leadership
  • Transparency & Communication: A general meeting will be held in September to provide updates on these adjustments in the school’s governance, address staff questions, and share the
latest developments on the new building project. She encouraged staff to voice opinions, share concerns, and present ideas during that session.
  • Support for Leadership: Ms. Woodley addressed recent negative commentary in the community, assuring staff that the Board stands firmly behind the Director and her team. She
encouraged all staff members to remain focused on delivering quality education for the benefit of the youths of St. Eustatius.

Ms. Woodley also extended an open invitation for staff to raise questions or share concerns, either directly with her after the session or via the Staff Officer, with the assurance that each matter will
receive a response. The GvP Board respects everyone’s right to voice their concerns constructively.

However, the board would also like to advise the staff to refrain from making unverified and unsubstantiated statements.

“Let’s work together toward achieving excellence in education—not for me, not for the Board, but for Statia, for our students, and you as educators. Be proud of what you have achieved so far,” Ms. Woodley stated.

The first meeting of Prep-Week closed on a note of optimism and collaboration, reflecting the school’s commitment to teamwork, transparency, and educational excellence.
